I'm excited to announce that Survived by Her Longtime Companion will be released next month. Please follow this link to the excerpt or simply click on the "Excerpt" in the left hand column. I hope you enjoy the story. There are two romances within the same book. You can't go wrong there!
Another big announcement: all Blue Feather books are now available as Kindle e-books! As soon as the book is available for purchase on Amazon, you can purchase it as a Kindle e-book. They are still available as e-books through Bella Distribution with about a week delay from the release date of the book.
To those in the Atlanta, Georgia area, I'll be at Charis Books and More on Friday, February 24, 2012, from 7:30 to 9:00 pm for Survived by Her Longtime Companion's book launch party. The address is 1189 Euclid Ave NE. I'll be reading from the book, plus be available for any questions. And of course I'd love to sign your copy.
We had a great time on our last trip to Atlanta in November at Charis in helping the bookstore celebrate its 37th birthday. We enjoyed visiting with fellow Blue Feather authors Jane Vollbrecht, Mavis Applewater, and Renee MacKenzie.
The trip I made to Dallas for the Jewel LesFic Book Club in November was also a total blast. I had a great discussion about Playing for First with the club and enjoyed reading from Playing for First, Two for the Show, and giving a sneak peek at Survived by Her Longtime Companion. I hope to go back again. Sandy Thornton was a fabulous hostess. And I very much enjoyed my interview with one of my favorite authors, Carsen Taite. Just click here if you'd like to see the interview. You might even hear me do some Elvis!
We have more places we'll be traveling in 2012. I'll announce those venues and times as we get closer to the dates.

Hello all! At the GCLS Conference, I was on a panel, along with Karin Kallmaker and Marianne Martin, called "Sending Pirates to Davey Jones's Locker." During my presentation at the beginning, I gave away a handout called "Fighting E-Book Piracy." I mentioned that I would make the handout available on my website. Here is a link to the PDF file. You can also click on the "Fighting E-Book Piracy" link located on the Menu to the left.
In November 2010, I had the unfortunate experience of finding Playing for First available "free" on a Website. Which means the book was illegally pirated (perhaps that's redundant). In the handout, I explained the steps I went through to resolve the situation. I hope that the information available here will help other authors faced with this problem. However, please note the legal disclaimer on the last page (highlighted in blue). I am not an attorney, nor do I play one on TV. :-) But I do work at a law school and was afforded advice from attorneys on how to possibly handle this issue. The information I provide you is not a substitute for competent legal counsel. One suggestion I didn't include is for authors to set up "Google Alerts" on their name and titles of their books. You can have this information e-mailed to you once a week. This way, you can keep better track at any other pirating Websites out there ripping off your books.
It would be nice if the only thing that we as authors had to worry about was, well, writing. But even though pirating is rampant, publishers and authors still want their readers to have access to their releases in e-book format. As authors, we just need to remain vigilant.

I enjoyed talking with Lara Zielinsky last week on her Blog Talk Radio Show. We discussed Two for the Show, as well as aspects of writing. We also discussed my next release Survived by Her Longtime Companion. Lara asked some great questions. You can listen to the interview here.
Two for the Show received a very nice review from Salem West on her blog, The Rainbow Reader. I love Ms. West's reviews. They're funny and off-beat, a breath of fresh air when it comes to reviews. Here's a little of what she had to say about Two for the Show:
"I’ve developed a huge respect for Chris Paynter. There is so much to like about her simple, careful and well-conceived themes; the way she sprinkles subtle bits of humor and pathos into the mix; the story behind the story, and the very human, un-superhero characters. The book is about more than women in love, breaking the gender barriers in the last great bastion of manliness, the creased, ugly faces of discrimination and hatred, or the crushing pain of fear and loss.
"The book is about learning it's okay to be vulnerable with your friends and yourself, to trust even when you can't see where you are, and to do whatever you have to do, no matter how hard it is, to get where you want to be."
For the full review, visit The Rainbow Reader. Be sure and read Ms. West's other lesfic reviews. I guarantee you'll smile and learn more about the books, too.
Phyllis and I have been preparing for the trip to Orlando and the GCLS Conference. I've even gone clothes shopping, which for me is a minor miracle. We have the goodies ready for the conference giveaway table. Please visit the table (which should be in the vendor area). If they don't have a table this year, you'll find the goodies at the Blue Feather table. You'll also find me hanging out at the Blue Feather table if you want any autographs of your books.
Well, that's about it for now. I may not be back on here until after the conference. Hope to see you there!

I'll be the guest on Lara Zielinsky's Blog Talk Radio Show this Thursday, May 19, from 10:30 PM to 11:30 PM. I'll be discussing Two for the Show and will read a short excerpt from the book. I'll also talk a little about my next release, Survived by Her Longtime Companion. I'm still a bit secretive about the storyline, but will share enough to give readers a little background on the romance and the main character, Eleanor. Please join us by clicking on the above link. I'd love to hear from you if you have any questions or comments about my books. I'm looking forward to it!

The finalists for the 2011 Ann Bannon Popular Choice Award were announced earlier today. I'm pleased to say that Come Back to Me was selected as one of the eight finalists. Congratulations to the other finalists! This award is even more special to me because it's voted on each year by readers and members of the GCLS. Now, there is a week of voting on the eight finalists until May 21 when "polls" will be closed. So, just like last year when Playing for First was shortlisted, this is where I ask any of you who are members of the GCLS who enjoyed the book to cast your vote for Come Back to Me. It's easier for me to ask here on my Website because you can't see my face, which I'm sure is red. lol! Win or lose, it'll be fun to be among friends and colleagues and enjoy a week away from Indy with my wife, Phyllis. She had the broken foot last year and couldn't attend. I know I'm repeating myself, but it wasn't the same without her. I look forward to seeing you all there, too!

Another fantastic week! I found out this past weekend that Come Back to Me has been shortlisted for a Goldie in Traditional Contemporary Romance! The winners will be announced at the Golden Crown Literary Society's Award Ceremony on Saturday, June 11. THEN, Emily Reed announced the release of Two for the Show on Sunday, May 1! And to top it off, my copies arrived at the doorstep this afternoon! I think it was a beer commercial that said, "It doesn't get any better than this." lol Phyllis took me out to celebrate tonight at one of our favorite places here in Indy. You can buy Two for the Show now from Blue Feather Books. It's also available from Bella Books in both paperback and e-book format. You can also buy Two for the Show through Amazon, but keep in mind that publishers and authors see virtually no money from those sales. Okay... time to go celebrate some more! Wooo hooo!

I'm very pleased to announce the Lesbian Fiction Readers Choice Award Members named Come Back to Me as one of the Top 5 Favorite Romance Books of 2010! Here is a link to the group's website. Thank you to the readers who voted for the book!

A lot has happened since I wrote back in February. The editing for Two for the Show is done! I read the PDF this last week and signed off on it. The cover, designed by our graphic artist, Ann Phillips, was finalized. Ann blew me away with the design of the front cover. And wait until you see the back cover! Very, very nice. Emily Reed, my publisher, has uploaded the book and it's at the printer. Not sure of the exact release date, but that's okay! It should be by the end of this month. This time between signing off on it and the actual release is always the "I can't wait until Christmas" time period. I need to find things to keep me occupied, like, I don't know . . . writing? Now that Two for the Show is edited, and I know that certain plotlines have changed, I can get going gangbusters on From Third to Home, the third in the Playing for First Series.
I had something special happen this week. Pamela Bigelow reviewed my last release, Come Back to Me, for Lambda Literary Reviews on April 13! Here's a little of what she had to say:
"Chris Paynter’s second book, Come Back to Me (Blue Feather) is well-written, with an interesting setting, and characters any reader can care for. Her pacing keeps the story flowing. Even though
the reader may know what’s coming, there are enough twists and turns to keep the reader in the story until the end of the book."
For the full review, please click on this link to Lambda's website.
It's an honor to receive a review from such a prestigious organization, one that is a frontrunner in promoting GLBT literature.
Well, I think that's all the excitement I have to report for now. Let's just say it was quite a week! I'll be back, hopefully next week, to announce the release of Two for the Show for all of you fans of Amy, Lisa, Frankie, and Stacy. Once Em makes her announcement, I'll make mine.
Take care and blessings to all!
